Our bot

How MyWhat'sOn reads venue calendars, and the rules we follow.

Who is visiting your site?

MyWhat'sOn gathers concerts, festivals and shows in Belgium and nearby on a single site. To do so, a program visits the public calendar pages of the venues and festivals we list. Every event links back to its original page and to the official ticket office: we do not sell tickets.

How to recognise it

In your access logs, it identifies itself with this User-Agent header:

MyWhatsOnBot/1.0 (+https://mywhatson.be/bot)

The rules we follow

  • robots.txt is respected. Disallowed pages are never visited and the requested pause between two pages (Crawl-delay) is applied. We re-read every site's robots.txt each week.
  • One visit per night, one page at a time. We come by at night, when your visitors are few, without parallel requests on a site that asks for a pause.
  • Public pages only. No account, no form, no restricted area: only what anyone can read.
  • Just the essentials. Title, date, venue, link to the event page and to the ticket office. The data is neither sold nor shared.

A few calendars only show up with JavaScript: those are read with an automated browser, following the same rules.

Do you run a venue or a festival?
